Aloha everyone If anyone here uses NVDA, I could use some help, please. I was wondering how you get NVDA to read a folder of things and include how many files are there. For example, when you're on the first file in a folder, it would say the name of that file and then say 1 of however many files are there. I can't get it to do that. I was also wondering what other voices I can get for it. Thanks!

I don't know why it is not telling you how many files are in a folder, it works for me. Do you have the latest update, I have 2011.2 or whatever they call it And the E speak speech engine is horrible in my opinion, you can choose the windows narrator speech engine, but I don't really think it is any better. But I've heard the windows 7 narrator is better. I'm sure somebody who is better at this stuff than me could tell you how to download a better speech engine, I only use NVDA as a back up. Did I say better too many times, sorry, lol!

there is also speech hub at www.speechhub.org
src333 also created a pack of NVDA drivers that includes the eloquence synthesiser of jaws fame, as well as fesival, real speak solo direct, svox piko, and the first NVDA hardware synth driver: double talk lt!

You can download / purchase any Sapi5 compliant voice (Ivona has a few for intance), I think they are $49 or something around there.
Then you open NVDA, choose "speech synthesizer" and it should show up in that list once it is installed (you may have to select Sapi5 first in that menu).
2011.3. is the latest stable version, 2012.1 is downloadable, but still under development.

Oh I don't have it in front of me, but I believe it only reads how many files are in the folder when you first open it, else I believe you can see this in the property dialog of the folder, I think so at least. I'll post back once I've testeditout.

sapi 4 is also supported, if you want the jaws voices.
